FAQ/Help -- A pdf help document is available.

How do I sign up?
Click on the [Sign up!] link above and fill out and send in the resulting form. You will receive a confirming e-mail with your login information, to which you must reply, and then your subscription will begin. Depending on what schedule you have selected you will receive an e-mail list for each category of new titles at the Tacoma Public Library, either weekly, biweekly or monthly on a specific day.

What if I change my mind?
You can click on the [Edit settings] or [Cancel subscription] buttons to change your settings or completely cancel your subscription. Under the 'change settings' option you can change the delivery schedule, the lists of categories you selected, change your e-mail address, and start or stop a 'vacation hold'. You'll need your login information to change your settings.

What if I go on vacation?
You can click on the [Edit settings] button above and change any settings. You can add a 'vacation hold' date which will prevent any lists from being sent to you until after that date. Please remember that you will not be sent any lists you missed in the meantime when your vacation hold expires. You can look at the online monthly lists by clicking on the [View Current lists] button above to see what you missed.

What if I forgot my login?
You can click on the [Forgot my login] button above to have your login information e-mailed to you. When you have your login information you can make changes in your settings.

How do I change my e-mail address and login information?
Once you are subscribed, you can click on the [Edit settings] button above, and modify any and all of your settings. If you are editing your e-mail address, make sure you change both fields to confirm the change. You can change your login information in the same way. Please note that your login information is sent in the clear over the internet so you should not use anything that compromises your privacy or security. The login information is simply meant to keep others from signing you up or modifying your preferences, and not meant as a security feature.

Do I have to have a Tacoma Public Library library card?
No, you do not have to have a card to receive these lists. However, you do have to have a valid TPL library card to be able to reserve any of these titles.

How do I place a hold?
When you are viewing a list of titles you can click on the 'More detail' link, and it will take you to the library catalog. From the catalog you can see whether any copies are available, click on the 'Place Holds' button or icon to place a Hold, or view your account. If you are not viewing your e-mail list as html you may have to cut and paste the URL from the e-mail message into the web address box of your browser to get this to work.

How many titles will I get?
The number of lists and the number of titles in each list is determined by your preferences. If you choose to get a list on a monthly schedule instead of weekly, you will see more titles on any list. Some categories will have only a few titles added each month, others (for example, general fiction, popular DVDs) will have many new titles added each month. Typically the media and fiction lists are longer than the non-fiction lists.

How often will I be sent e-mail updates?
You can choose how often you want updates. You can get updates on a monthly, biweekly, or weekly basis. You choose the schedule, including the day of the week or day of the month when you want the e-mails to arrive. You will only receive an update if there is a new title in that category since the last e-mail update you received.

Is my e-mail address private?
Your e-mail address will be kept private. The Library does not sell or give out e-mail information to anyone. See the Library's Privacy Policy for more details.

We share the same e-mail address -- why can't we get different preferences?
Sorry, but the subscription and e-mailings are tied to the unique e-mail address, and only one subscription can be linked to any e-mail address. You might want to ask if your ISP or e-mail service supports 'aliases' or alternate e-mail address on the same account at no extra charge, and if so you can use that feature to get multiple subscriptions to the same e-mail mailbox with different preferences.

Why can't I find category x?
Please feel free to suggest categories or topics in addition to those that appear in the current list of topics. The Library will add more categories as we see a demand for them. Note that some very precise categories may not ever be available since the call number is used to create these lists. If a unique call number format or range can be identified then a category can be created.

Spam Blockers

If you or your e-mail provider are using SPAM blocking "white lists" please make sure you can receive e-mails from newarrivals@tpl.lib.wa.us.  Otherwise, some ISPs and SPAM blocking services may place the New Arrivals e-mail lists in your 'spam' box, or not deliver them to your e-mail inbox at all. Please contact your ISP or Spam blocking service provider for more information on how to add e-mail addresses to your white list so that lists and subscriber information are not going to be blocked. You will need to unblock the email address newarrivals@tpl.lib.wa.us for this to work.
