Tacoma Public Library's Photography Archive - Privacy Statement The Tacoma Public Library is committed to protecting the privacy of each Photography Archive user. We do not sell, share, or otherwise disclose any of your personal information you might supply to us to any third party, except as absolutely necessary to deliver products to you which you have specifically purchased. We will share your name and address only in order to allow photographic studios to produce photographic products which you may order, and to mail those prints or slides to you. We will not make your e-mail address available to other parties. We will not make your telephone number available to other parties. What Personal information does the Photography Archive store? In order to make this web site easier for you to use, you can choose to change various default settings. The information you can enter in this Settings page includes various settings on how images are displayed, as well as information on your name, address, e-mail address and telephone number. The information you share about how you want the pages on this web site to look is stored on your computer as a 'cookie' or file. This file is stored on your hard drive through your web browser. This information is not maintained by the Library but only checked each time you use this site, so that the display looks the way you want it to. If you do fill in identifying information in this cookie file -- name, address, phone number or e-mail address -- the Tacoma Public Library will use this information only for the purpose of making it easier for you to fill in forms when you order copies of images or when sending comments to library staff. If you want to remove these settings you can erase the cookie file on your computer. Be aware that if you give your computer to someone else these settings will stay with the computer. They are NOT stored on our servers. These settings are stored in the key 'imageprf' in a cookie for the 'images' directory, in the cookies directory of your browser. See your browser documentation or help file for specific steps to clean all cookies or a specific cookie from your computer. You can set your browser to NOT accept new cookies. This will prevent you from taking advantage o the ability to change and retain these default settings. If you want to change these cookie settings back to their defaults (no personal information is supplied) you can either remove the cookie from your computer or click on the "Set everything back to defaults" option button on the Settings page (reached from the image search screen). This will instruct your browser to remove all the Images-related cookie settings, including any name, address, telephone or e-mail information. This will NOT however remove the cookie entirely, but only set it to a value that will contain and transfer no information. No personal data is stored on the Photography Archive server. Personal data you choose to submit is used only for fulfilling orders for photographic products which you have requested, and to reply to you if you choose to share information about any of the photographs in this collection. The Tacoma Public Library does not store or use this information for any other purposes. Automatic Information The Library collects and analyzes some information automatically whenever you use this web site. Examples of the information the Library collects includes the Internet Protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet; the computer and connection information such as operating system, platform, browser type and version; and the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL) progression that you use to move around in this web site. This information is used in the aggregate for preparing usage reports, and so that the Library knows how this web site is used, and how it can be improved. Your Postings to This Site The Photography Archive allows any user to post or tell Library Staff information about any photograph they view. This feature is designed to allow us to identify the unidentified, and to correct inaccuracies introduced either by the original photographer or in Library research about a specific image. By posting any information you give us royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to allow other people to view and use your content, and to use, distribute, display and create derivative works from this content in any and all media, in any manner, in whole or in part, without any restriction or reponsibilities to you. Who can access Photography Archive personal data? No personal data is stored on the Photography Archive server. Personal data e-mailed to the Library or mailed to the library as part of an order for photographic products is used by library staff to process and complete your order. Personal information (name and address and telephone number) may be shared with photographic studios which the Library contracts with to produce the photographic prints and products which you ordered, in order for those businesses to complete your order and mail the products to you. They have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes. The information from your order is maintained by the Library as part of its standard financial record. Those materials are open to audit review. Personal information maintained by the Library may be subject to public disclosure pursuant to the Washington State public disclosure statute. Personal information stored in the cookie on your computer is accessible by any user with access to your computer. Always be careful of who has access to your computer. Problems? Questions?
