(Unique: 4232) Date: 02-18-1941 Description: Streetcar track removal on Center Street and Tacoma Avenue. After mass transit was converted from electric rail cars to busses, a process that took a mere five months, Tacoma Railway and Power was granted a four year contract to remove the now obsolete rails, some 75-80 miles of them. The city decided the company was moving too slow and took over the process themselves. The steel from the tracks was salvaged by TR&P, while the city salvaged all other construction materials. (T.
